In your section headed beautiful football the proud name of Arsenal appears. Being a fan of said club for sixty years makes me both proud and at the same time sad. It seems we both share the same owner a mr Stan Kroenke, here i start to choose my words carefully as i do not know the general consensus of opinion of mr Kroenke in relation to the Rapids. All I know is that he is the most hated man at Arsenal and is now looked on by all Arsenal fans as a blood sucker who has to leave our club at any cost.

Going out on a limb here but looking at your history since SK took control of your club appears very similar to ours, if your supporters are happy with mediocrity fine, on the other hand we are not. no jumped up businessman is going to use our club for his amusement. As i said it is our intention to rid our great club of this leach for ever, what we cannot do is travel across the Atlantic to do it. If you have any ideas to help fight our cause please do not hesitate to reply. Your ideas will be passed onto all our supporters clubs un and official to help us form a strategy to rid us of this so called man who is to frightened to attend our home games, and only makes an appearance at major board meetings, the coward.

Excellent analysis of the situation. I suspect Gary Smith is having the last laugh. A cohesive group that believes in each other is a far more powerful team than a bunch of random guys thrown together because of supposed strengths, or just because the coach is more invested in shilling particular players or formations, and makes the mistake of thinking that's a formula for success. It's too bad there are so many talented young players who aren't going to get a chance. There are probably teams elsewhere in MLS that would be happy to have them, and make far better use of their abilities.

This certainly will be a true measure of team coherence, since they've been limited to beating lower-ranked Eastern Conference teams so far. Hopefully the game doesn't spiral into the usual ugliness, with the Rapids (or the refs) snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
You snuck 'nous' into a soccer article again! This has to be a world record for literary eloquence in soccer journalism.

TN, I'm a longtime Rapids follower and season-ticket holder. Great stuff in your column, just the kind of thing US soccer fans want to hear to help address their nagging inferiority complexes. I'm sure you picked up on the vibe around the team during the matches you attended but, for the record, it's this: a small but loyal fan base, hard-working players, indifferent ownership. The first two groups provide mutual moral support in order to survive the third, so it's a tight community with less inter-firm drama than there could be. A Designated Player like Becks and a proper marketing campaign by the FO would be nice to help grow the community to Seattle/Toronto/Portland/Galaxy proportions but, until then, it is what it is. Flattered to hear that our little soccer outpost in fly-over America has a UK admirer.

Sorry to hear about CC's impending relegation. I remember seeing them dump ManU out of the league cup in '07. Otherwise, I know two things about Coventry: Whitehall allowed the Luftwaffe to destroy it during the Baedeker Blitz, and that The Enemy's first album was very entertaining. So perhaps the world is a touch smaller than you may expect. Many happy returns for you to Commerce City. We'll be there.
